A sales job can be a great fit for the right person right out of college. One of LogoNation’s better performing sales agents described her start in this career:
“I finished college in 2012 and was attracted to this job because I like getting out and meeting people. I am not a desk job person. And I really believe in the product I am selling. I enjoy traveling across the state – I’ve lived here my entire life but now I’m seeing things I’d never seen before.”
She enjoys meeting different people, including mayors and Chamber presidents, whom she might not meet otherwise.
“I have to be very organized, and fortunately I am naturally organized,” she said. “And you have to be knowledgeable about your product and services for people to believe in you.
“You also need the gift of gab so you lead the conversation and hold your ground. Let people know you’re genuinely interested in them and their business – you cannot come across as a typical sales person. Know your sales pitch so your attitude and your posture come across as a conversation, not a sales pitch where you’re spouting off facts and making points.”
What would she say to other recent college graduates in terms of how a job like this might benefit them?
“If this is their cup of tea, they need to understand what they’re getting into. Sales is not easy. You have to give 100% all the time. Some of the stuff they don’t teach you in school. You learn from interactions and occasionally falling on your face. But come in with a good attitude and be ready for it. This isn’t for the faint of heart – you need a tough skin.
“Some people think my job is easy because I’m selling t-shirts, but it’s not – sometimes I walk through a door and people but their hand in my face. You have to get your foot in the door and not be intimidated.”
What does she like about LogoNation as a company?
“I like that it’s not owned by some hoity-toity people sitting in a big office somewhere. I like that it is a family-owned business. It feels good to work for a business that actually cares about their people. I like working for people that I can call – they will address it themselves. It helps me get up and go to work each day.
“And I like that I’m not in one place too long – I like opportunities to control how much money I make. They offer great incentives – most retail chains do not.”
She first learned about LogoNation through a job listing, and decided to give them a call. She soon got a call from LogoNation’s Human Resources manager who asked for an interview and convinced her that this was a legitimate opportunity. And it has been a great fit.
“I want to do this for as long as these people put up with me,” she said with a smile. “If you’re genuinely good with this job, your income is unlimited. You don’t have a boss breathing down your neck. I work for good people. I recommend it highly.”
